Junior Annabella Strathman and sophomore Greta Nackerud rehearse lines for the upcoming show ‘Sense and Sensibility’.

When freshman cast member Isaac Wahl earned a spot in the upcoming production ‘Sense and Sensibility’, he felt happy to have the opportunity to be a part of the community he loves, so close to home.

“I love the people that do theater (and) I enjoy the company of them. It’s really great to just be able to do (theater) at school, that way we don’t have to go somewhere else,” Wahl said.

Theater Director Jodi Hatzenbeller said the show focuses on the struggles of three young women during the late 1700s England shortly after their father dies.

“It’s about the Dashwood family, three daughters and mother. The mother has just been widowed and because of the laws of the time, the daughters can’t inherit any of the money or the estate, while their half brother gets everything,” Hatzenbeller said. “(The show is) showing the rules of the time and how the sisters adapt to it.”

Sophomore cast member Morganna Oberdorfer said she enjoys the new approach with the coming production.

“I really like it (so far). I think it’s going to be a cool show because a lot of the furniture they’re going to put on wheels (and) they’re going to all move and it sounds really cool,” Oberdorfer said.

Hatzenbeller said this will be a different experience for cast members because there will be movement with the set.

“It’s a classic piece of literature I thought would be an interesting piece to approach, but also this version is a bunch of short scenes that are all kind of constantly in motion, so I thought it would be a fun challenge to try and to keep us on our feet,” Hatzenbeller said.

Wahl said he is most looking forward to seeing the audience reactions to the performance.

“(I’m excited) to hear the audience comment because it’s like reality tv, very dramatic, so I think it’ll be fun to hear their responses,” Wahl said.

According to Hatzenbeller, the showing dates are Fri. April 20, Sat. April 29 and Sun. April 30.
