Sophomores Emma Kempf, Emma Yarger and senior Eben Manegbe rehearse their lines for “Sense and Sensibility” April 26.

After wrapping up the theater production “Sense and Sensibility”, theater director Jodi Hatzenbeller said she feels pleased with the results of the final performances of the year.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work the students did, from the tech elements all the way to the last moment of the performance on stage,” Hatzenbeller said. “I think they did a good job.”

According to Hatzenbeller, the show was the first to be entirely on wheels and she said although difficult, the set turned out well.

“(The set on wheels) worked well (although) it took a lot of planning figuring out where this goes, where that goes, who moves it, but eventually we got it to all come together and I think the kids executed it quite well,” Hatzenbeller said.

Sophomore cast member Zoey Zachek said she had a delightful time as part of the show and hopes to continue being a member of theater next year.

“This is the first show I was ever in so it really opened my mind to do more theater (and) I’m planning on auditioning for the musical in the fall,” Zachek said.

Hatzenbeller said she thinks the overall audience turnout and response to the show was positive.

“We had about 400 people come to the show this past weekend (and) I had a lot of good feedback (such as) people liking the story, the way we used the stage and our creative blocking of things,” Hatzenbeller said.

Krause said she feels happy supporting the tight-knit and artistic theater community.

“I enjoy having the arts in my life and there’s a lot of nice people (in theater) too so it’s kind of like a family,” Krause said.

Hatzenbeller said as an end of year tradition, the theater members all gather to honor and celebrate their yearly achievements.

“We have a theater banquet at the end of the year where we acknowledge the leaving seniors,” Hatzenbeller said. “Also before the final performance of the year we have a whole cast and crew bonding thing where they honor each other. It’s an emotional time but it’s not the last time they’ll be together because they still have the banquet.”

Zachek said she enjoyed working with the theater seniors and will miss them greatly.

“It breaks my heart honestly,” Zachek said. “I love the seniors so much and I look up to a lot of them so them leaving hurts but I know they’re going to be successful out in the world.”
