According to junior Thor Anderson, Roots and Shoots has increased student involvement and awareness.

“I would say there are a lot more people in Roots and Shoots, which is really good because there are more people interested in this type of thing,” Anderson said. “We are more organized, we have more projects to work on.”

Junior Zoe Frank said Roots and Shoots’ focus is to enforce climate plans with the school.

“We focus a lot on climate policy and working with the city and school system to enforce the greener policy,” Frank said,”We are going to focus a lot on making sure  the school is keeping up with the goals to complete renewable energy by 2030 and complete carbon neutrality by 2040.”

Sophomore Adam Gips said ensuring the school keeps on track with the action plan is one of the key goals that Roots and Shoots has.

“We are really working on making sure the school keeps the promises it made with the plans,” Gips said.

Anderson said one of the main goals Roots and Shoots has is to raise awareness of the climate action plans.

“We want to work together with the School Board and the city to help make sure they keep track of the climate action plans that passed,” Anderson said. “We are going to try to make sure they are on track to meet them and raise awareness.”

Frank said the biggest goal is ensuring the school keeps up with the climate resolution.

“Last spring we passed the Climate Leadership Resolution which is a plan to make sure the school is following the goals of the Climate Action Plan,” Frank said. “So that’s kind of a big focus this year. Working on that and making sure the school system stays on top of things.”
