After working in Human Resources in St.Paul and Minneapolis public schools for almost 20 years , Richard Kreyer joins St. Louis Park as the new director of Human Resources.
Kreyer is now in charge of the employment systems of St. Louis Park.
According to Richard Kreyer, Human Resources deals with all of the employment systems in the district and focuses on having the right employees for each job.
“We want to make sure we’re hiring good people, so we’re evaluating people, we’re making sure these are the right people to be working with students in our systems or maintaining the buildings or providing food service,” Kreyer said.
According to Kreyer, he is honored to come to park to work alongside superintendent Metz, after working in Human Resources for 20 years.
“I think he’s got a strong vision for the teaching and learning site, and something he told me is that he wants St. Louis Park public school’s to be one of the best employers in St. Louis Park,” Kreyer said.
As the new director of human resources, Kreyer said he hopes to ensure everyone is hired in a fair manner.
“One of the things that is my challenge here for this first year is to put in more HR procedures and policies so that we’re sure that all of the processes are being fairly applied regardless of the person,” Kreyer said.
According to Kreyer, not only does human resources directly impact teachers by deciding who is hired, it has an important role on students.
“I believe [the impact on students] is critical, ” Kreyer said. “How we make sure that we have the best employees, the quality of the teachers that’s hired, the training that’s provided to teachers, the training that’s provided to principals so that they’re making sure that the teachers are doing the jobs we’re asking them to do.
Junior Rachel Gray said she agrees human resources is important to students by focusing on hiring only those suited for the job.
“If we didn’t have all these ‘perfect’ teachers, we would just have a jumble of teachers,” Gray said. “Therefore we would have ones that aren’t prepared for any situation that comes or for any kid that comes.”
According to Kreyer, his main goal for the first year as director of Human Resources in St.Louis Park is to rebuild and better the system they already have.
“One of the things that is my challenge here for this first year is to put in more HR procedures and policies so that we’re sure that all of the processes are being fairly applied regardless of the person,” Kreyer said.
