Food to stay in the lunchroom
Staff attempt to ensure students eat lunch out of halls, classrooms

Every year, staff look over school policies to make necessary changes. This year, the staff decided the school needs better regulation to keep food inside the lunchroom, according to assistant principal Kari Schwietering.
Schwietering said teachers requested the policy crackdown.
“There were many teacher complaints about trash in the hallways,” Schwietering said.
Schwietering said enforcing the policy should not be difficult.
“Communicating a clear message to both the students and the staff should be enough. Most students won’t even notice. Most already just eat in the lunchroom,” Schwietering said.
Sophomore Alyssa Whetstine said while she would rather have the option to eat outside of the lunchroom, she understands why the policy exists.
“I think it’s somewhat unfair since there is often no seats,” Whetstine said. “I do understand why this is necessary due to both the trash and possibly food in the hall. So if it gets really out of hand, I would understand if they would force us to eat in the lunchroom.”
Senior Ashley Mogler said the rule should not be so rigid, and staff should try to see things from the student’s point of view.
“The lunchroom is really crowded,” Mogler said. “Some kids must feel uncomfortable since they have no friends to sit with.”
Mogler said she believes if the rules became any stricter, it would only cause more student insubordination.
“People would just rebel more against the rule if they tried to force us to eat inside,” Mogler said.
