In the face of COVID-19, College Board has altered the typical testing format for Advanced Placement tests. College Board announced exams will be given May 11-22, with makeup tests June 1-5.
According to College Board, each subject’s test will be taken at the same time worldwide, and students can take the tests from home or school if schools are open, on any device.
Each test will have one or two free-response questions, each timed separately, with the total test time being 45 minutes, with an additional five minutes to upload responses, according to College Board. This year’s exams will be open-book and open-note, and exam questions are being made specifically to fit this style of test.
“We’re confident that the vast majority of AP students will follow the rules for taking the exams. For the small number of students who may try to gain an unfair advantage, we have a comprehensive and strict set of protocols in place to prevent and detect cheating,” College Board said in an email.
For world languages and culture exams, students will need to complete two spoken tasks and no written responses. According to College Board, more details will be made available in the coming weeks.
College Board said it is aware of the challenges of digital exams and is dedicated to helping students who do not have access to technology.
According to College Board, it anticipates releasing exam scores as close to the normal schedule of early July as possible.
