Before sunrise Sept. 18, 12 Park students joined a zoom call with KARE 11 to participate in a virtual pep fest. Senior Michael Boxley-Harmon said the pep fest included waving at the camera as two students talked about distance learning.

“I was asked by Ms. Busse and I did it because it seemed fun,” Boxley-Harmon said. “It makes me feel pretty good. I’m included in the school and pretty invested in Kare 11 too, so I really liked that.”

According to assistant principal Jessica Busse, KARE 11 has been doing Friday sunrise with students and invited Park students to be a part of the socially distance pep fest.

“(KARE 11) invited our students to be part of it … we have great kids and we always want to showcase our kids,” Busse said.

Sophomore Henry Bendickson said he decided to attend because he wanted to support Park and the students being interviewed, while also getting to be on the news himself.

“I was invited and I thought it would be a fun experience to come and be on TV for a little bit,” Bendickson said. “It was a pretty cool 13 minutes of fame.”

Busse said she was impressed by the responses the students gave as their comments acknowledged the hard work the school has been doing.

“I couldn’t have asked them to be more honest, or supportive of our staff, which I think is huge right now,” Busse said. “As our staff is just working their butts off, I’m really excited about how positive they were around what teachers are doing for kids.”
