Controversy around purchasing parking passes

February 25, 2023

The parking pass system is a big issue when it comes to students and how they are affected at Park .The majority of students are against the cost, the limited number of spots, the pass application process and the unfairness of those who misuse the lot without permission. I can see that Park doesn’t enforce these parking permits strictly.

Parking permits were arranged for students to have access to a parking space at Park. Due to the unfairness of the lot and people abusing it, I don’t see the point of the parking permits — they aren’t necessary. If Park enforced its policies and had more spots for the parking lot, maybe this system could work smoothly.

One of the most noticeable aspects of the passes is their cost. Although it has always been the same price at Park, $50 is a lot to pay just to safely park your car. The $50 that Park charges us comes out of our own pockets, and that’s money that we could have spent on things like food, gas or other essentials that are far more essential than a parking permit.Student’s school day has also been impacted due to a lack of parking spots, which can result in students being late to class. Therefore, Park should get rid of the parking pass system.

Students parking without passes weren’t confronted until January of this school year, when the majority of students received a “warning ticket”. From the beginning of the school year until January, when the school eventually engaged in their first altercation, these behaviors in the parking lot persisted. Because of this, the whole lot should not have these passes. Some students abuse this policy until it’s enforced.

I hope that future students will have better possibilities, and that parking permits will no longer be available. Students need this rigidity to help them mature into young adults, to always act fairly, and to not treat other students who have paid for passes unfairly,so the school should just get rid of it overall.

Conversation of parking passes is in the air. Parking passes are efficient, help fund Park and keep the school parking lot organized. They also help ensure that students without a license aren’t driving. Students are guaranteed a safe spot with a parking pass, therefore we should keep the parking pass system

Every year, new students get their license, and currently, for one semester you have to pay $50 to park in the school parking lot. If you are caught without a parking pass or an invalid one you may get towed. Park has the right to do so, because whoever parks in a spot without a parking pass or with an invalid one is taking the spot from someone who paid to be in that spot.

Driving to school and parking at Park is a privilege. Our system is efficient and simple. Park could enforce another system where students and staff have to pay $5-a-day to park. But that wouldn’t work because the system that we have is a one-time fee and is good for a whole semester. It is better because you pay $50 once instead of paying $5 everyday.

The form that is necessary to fill out for parking passes is simple and straightforward. The school makes it very easy to receive a parking pass and there aren’t many restrictions.

I believe that the student parking lot is well-organized, as the lines coordinate, it is almost always clean and there are no confusing exits. Students who don’t have a parking pass are less likely to park in the school parking lot because they are at risk of getting towed — which is effective, because then it leaves the reserved spots open.

The parking pass system ensures that nobody without a license is driving and parking in the school parking lot. This ensures a lot of safety — not just for students, but also for staff. We should maintain our current parking pass system because it is safe, simple and efficient.
