Most celebrities have no excuse for getting any car related tickets or in any accidents, as most are well off enough to afford a driver or, at the very least, an Uber. However, it seems that multiple times a year, celebrities make the headlines for driving troubles, whether it be driving under the influence (DUI), driving on the wrong side of the road, or a preventable accident.
Dennis Rodman was charged with four misdemeanor charges, according to Orange County Superior Court records, all related to driving on the wrong side of the road. He was charged with a hit and run with property damage, driving a motor vehicle across a dividing section, giving false information to a police officer and driving a motor vehicle without a valid license. There was no reason for Rodman to drive without a license, as at the time, in 2016, his net worth was around $500,000 and he was certainly in a position to find a taxi or Uber.
Another celebrity who has made the headlines many times for their famously bad driving is Tiger Woods. Woods has two DUIs to his name and has been involved in four serious accidents. A terrible single car accident in 2021 is what started the end of his career. Woods was going upwards of 80 MPH when he crossed over the median, struck a tree and landed in some brush. This accident led to severe injuries that resulted in emergency surgery and after, Woods said he was lucky to be alive and still have his foot. His most recent accident involved a pickup truck he attempted to overtake at an extreme speed and clipped the back of the truck, resulting in Woods’ Land Rover rolling several times. Woods was given a breathalyzer test, during which he blew a 0.0, indicating that he had no alcohol in his system, but refused to complete a urinalysis, which resulted in him being charged with a DUI and property damage.
Everyone knows the Kardashians and their massive net worth is estimated to be around $2.8 billion combined, yet despite this wealth, Khloe Kardashian still made the decision to drive under the influence in 2007 and was convicted of a DUI. Kardashian was sentenced to 30 days in jail after she refused to enroll in an alcohol education class and complete her roadside cleanup hours. She only ended up serving three hours after being released due to overcrowding in the jail.
There are some celebrities who use personal drivers due to accidents or the fear of accidents, such as Kevin Hart. Hart was involved in an accident that resulted in severe back injuries, and while Hart wasn’t the one driving when the accident occurred, he now almost exclusively uses a driver or chauffeur. Some celebrities use drivers because of the safety, others because of the fear of paparazzi and others still because they don’t feel they can safely drive themselves, one being Cristina Agularia.
In the end, no one should ever drive unlicensed, drunk, or otherwise unfit to operate a vehicle that can kill the driver and others; however, the most affluent people in the country most certainly shouldn’t. Celebrities don’t have any excuse when they most definitely have $20 to spare for an Uber or someone to call that could pick them up.
