Naturally the typical freshmen tend to be nervous when transitioning from the middle school to the high school. However for Freshman Curt Nystuen, who has attended eight schools in his life, the move to the high school has been nothing but an easy transition.
“I was really dreading the transition from middle school to high school, but it ended up being very smooth,” Nystuen said. “The introduction (to the school) was extremely good, and very long-winded, I got to know the school before I even walked the halls.”
Nystuen has attended eight other schools around the metropolitan area, including some in SLP.
“I attended Mounds Park Academy, Minnehaha Academy, Waldorf, Metropolitan School, Peter Hobart, Meadowbrook, the Park Middle School and now here,” Nystuen said.
Nystuen said even though he has had to move schools several times making friends is hardly ever an issue.
“At all the schools I’ve never had a problem with making friends,” he said. “I’ve always been able to make a good impression with people and fit in,” he said.
Curt was born outside the United States. He was adopted at the age of one and a half, and grew up in the United States.
“I was born in Korea, and got adopted by some great people, and been here ever since,” Nystuen said.
Despite the many changes of schools, Curt has not had a problem making great relationships in every school and online.
“I have many friends at other schools, but I’ve found a good community online, through video games, that are very nice,” Curt said.
When Curt is not gaming, he engages himself in a wide variety of physical activity, including soccer.
“I like to bike a lot, sometimes I’ll bike to school because I just want too,” Curt said. “I play soccer, and its a really great time because the guys are fun to be around.”
In his first year at the high school, Nystuen has quickly figured out his prefered classes, even after two weeks of school.
“I’ve actually like environmental science with Mr. Bye,” he said. “He’s a really cool guy and makes class really interesting.”
Finally, Curt hopes to finish the year strong with the ability to just get to the next year of High school.
“My goal is to get to next year,” he said. “I always say, always shoot for the next closest goal, and I just want to get through this year smoothly.”
