Girls’ synchro finishes season at state
Team places, individuals win achievement awards
May 29, 2015
With the loss of eight seniors the year before, senior Aubree Frank knew it was going to be hard for the synchro team to reclaim its third place title at the state meet, but she believed it was possible.
“We knew that getting third would be rather difficult after we lost eight seniors,” Frank said. “But I am super proud of the entire team that we were able to win it again.”
The team placed third at state May 21 and 22 for the third year in a row, according to coach Jessica Gust.
“Wayzata got first place and Stillwater was second by three points,” Gust said. “We beat Forest Lake by one point.”
Gust said she is proud of the way the entire teamed performed and the girls met all expectations. Especially with the loss of eight seniors, Gust said she believes everyone rose to the challenge and competed well.
“They totally nailed it. It was a really good meet and everybody had great swims. The girls performed well and got good scores,” Gust said. “Losing as many seniors as we lost last year we knew it was going to be a challenge to keep our spot, so the girls worked really hard to get there.”
According to Gust, the team had a lot of strong finishes in all divisions, placing top seven in all events except the extended solo.
Frank said she is satisfied with the entire team’s performance at state and the season overall.
“I am very happy about how the season went. I accomplished my goals, which were to place in figures at both sections and state, to win sections and to place in the top three at state,” Frank said. “I am also incredibly proud of every single swimmer. Practicing four hours a day certainly paid off.”
As well as taking home the third place trophy and title, individuals on the team received individual achievement awards. Senior Carolyn Guddal received the Academic All-State award and freshman Emma Breyak received the All-State award according to Gust.
The synchro season will officially come to an end May 31 when the team has its banquet. For complete results of the meet visit www.mshsl.org.
