One acts shortened for sections

Senior Miles Sandbo felt a rush of excitement when he heard his scene moved on to compete at the 6AA sections for theater.

Sandbo said said he wants to see how his hard work will pay off.

“I am excited to see where we place. I am hoping we get to move on to section finals,” Sandbo said.

Director Jodi Hatzenbeller said the competition consists of a shortened version of the one act play “Marcus is Walking” by using five of the 11 scenes.

“We perform a 30 to 35 minute piece that gets scored by judges and then our scores get compared to the other five schools that perform in our subsections. Then, the top three scoring schools move on to section finals,” Hatzenbeller said.

Sandbo said he believes the competition will go better than last year, when they were disqualified.

“I think the competition will go better than last year because we got disqualified for having food on stage, which was a weird rule. This year we are not going to be disqualified for that,” Sandbo said. “We have a pretty good chance because we also have good scenes.”

To prepare, Hatzenbeller said cast members need to focus on the scenes in their entirety and then work on specific aspects of each scene.

“We are going to work on refocusing timing with transitions,” Hatzenbeller said. “We are going to go back and dig into the scenes and see what improvements we can make.”

Competitions take place at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at The Academy of Holy Angels.Untitled Infographic
