Team celebrates seniors after last regular season game

Coming after a disappointing loss to Benilde, sophomore Margaret Klein said it was important for the team to play a better game and win.
“The last game we played against Benilde, we lacked energy and we were just like ‘eh,’ but this game we really wanted to win because it was our last game and it was senior night,” Klein said. I think we had a lot more effort. And the game was a lot closer, like it was back and forth the whole game, so it was a better battle than the first time.”
The varsity softball team beat Benilde 6-5 May 16 in the last game of the regular season. The team’s record is 10-10, according to MN Softball Hub.
Coach Trent Seaman said he was proud of the girls for their performance, specifically after a loss to Holy Angels 2-4 the previous day.
“Came up after a tough loss yesterday, and they came out and they competed their butts off,” Seaman said. “Annabelle, again, pitched another phenomenal game. We swang the bat very well. We got some productive hits. We had a pretty good game today.”
Senior captain Annabelle Schutte said the game was a success for multiple reasons.
“I think it was important just because this is our last game for the regular season, so it was important to win before Sections. It was fun to win on senior night, especially because we lost to (Benilde) last time,” Schutte said.
Seaman said following the game, the team had a banquet to commemorate the seniors and their high school career.
“We got four seniors this year up on varsity, and they’ve been a big part of this program, and it’s gonna be great to send them off with a nice little party here for them,” Seaman said.
Schutte said she was proud of the team’s performance and wants to continue playing well into Sections.
“I’m hoping we can play like this, maybe even a little better, and hopefully go to State,” Schutte said.
According to Seaman, softball sectionals will begin on Monday, May 21 at a location and time to be determined.
