Girls’ softball team hosts informational meeting

Players set goals for upcoming season

According to the Park softball coaches, captains and players they are setting their goals high for the upcoming season.

The team hosted an informational meeting March 6 to discuss the season.

Varsity softball coach Bobby Crumpton said the season will begin March 13.

“Tryouts will start March 13. We have 39 players that signed up, which is already more than we had last year,” Crumpton said.

Crumpton said most players that signed up are returning from last year.

“There are eight returning varsity players and we’re returning almost everyone from JV,” Crumpton said. “Practically our whole program is returning.”

Senior captain Anya Lindell Paulson said players also turned in their earnings form a fundraiser which will help pay for their trip during spring break.

“The fundraising was for our spring break trip, just to have money to pay for transportation and stuff in advance,” said Lindell Paulson.

Sophomore softball player Anya Morrison said she looks forward to the season and the spring break trip.

“I am very excited for the season, particularly spring break and and training, because that will be fun,” Morrison said.

According to Lindell Paulson, the trip will include team bonding activities as well as practices.

“We’re going to have two practices a day for three of the days, and we’re also going to visit two colleges and watch their practices, and do team bonding stuff,” Lindell Paulson said.

Lindell Paulson feels excited and hopeful for her last year of softball at Park.

“I am (excited) because it’s my last season and it has been such a blessing being part of this team for the last six years,” Lindell Paulson said. “I’m looking forward to building on that and finishing it out.”

Lindell Paulson said she wants to focus on strength as a team and helping the team improve their previous record.

“As a captain my goal is to make sure that our team is really focused on building each other up and working hard together towards our goal,” Lindell Paulson said. “(We want) to work together and to have a successful season and improve on our record from last year.”

Crumpton said his goal for the varsity team is to make state and win most of their games.

“My goal for the year is to get varsity team to the state tournament and I’d like to see varsity win 15 to 16 games, (which is) something really phenomenal,” Crumpton said.
