After an unsuccessful game against the Orono Spartans for the second week in a row, Orioles hockey battled through an intense game on the rink. With the end of the season just around the corner, the Orioles lost 3-0 against the Orono Spartans Feb. 2.

Assistant coach Brandon Desrosiers said he was not pleased exiting the game and was hoping for more intensity from the Orioles on the rink.

“I felt a lot better going into the game than I am leaving it,” Derosiers said. “They played back-to-back games, so I thought they’d be a little bit tired. Orono beat us on Tuesday, so I wanted a little bit more fire out of our guys.”

Sophomore Jack Betzer said the game was enjoyable due to the competition aspect and overall concept of hockey.

“They’re a good team with a lot of older players, we played really hard,” Betzer said. “It was fun because games are always fun.”

According to junior Thomas Mcgarvey, although the outcome of the game was anticipated, he is hoping for a comeback from the Orioles in future games.

“We knew what they were gonna do, but at the end of the day, we just didn’t have the best game, but we’ll come back,” Mcgarvey said.

Desrosiers said the team is working on consistency in an attempt to advance as a team.

“We know what we want, we want to keep growing as a team,”  Desrosiers said. “The goal is to start winning in the playoffs and start now in winning these big games.”

According to Betzer, team captain Miles Rider encourages the players to push themselves.

“Miles Rider had a great game,” Betzer said. “As a captain, I think he leads us to push harder every game.”

Mcgarvey said he hopes the team can improve on following through with scoring to win in the future.

“I hope to get more scoring chances, finish our chances, come out with a little more energy and finish the job,” Mcgarvey said.

The Orioles’ next home game is 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center against New Prague.
