Despite the 30 mile per hour winds, Park’s boys golf team managed to place fourth out of the eight other teams in our conference on Apr. 22. Coach Dan Becker said the wind had a big impact on the match, making it hard for the golfers to play their best.
“The team’s biggest challenge was definitely the wind,” Becker said. “It’s always hard to play when dealing with 30 mile per hour crosswinds.”
Junior Luke Thompson said he made some mistakes, but fought through the wind and played well despite the poor conditions.
“There were a couple things I could have done better, but conditions were tough and I played fine.” Thompson said.
Junior Landon Miller said, while he did putt well, the wind made it hard for him to get the rest of his game well.
“I played okay– the putter was good but the rest of my game wasn’t the best,” Miller said. “It was very windy on the course and that made the game a lot harder.”
Thompson said the team played well overall, but they definitely need to practice putting and playing with the wind.
“As a team, we did alright despite the tough conditions,” Thompson said. “Some people, myself included, need to work on playing the wind and our putting.”
Miller said the team spirits were high even though it was a rough day from the weather, and he is looking forward to the next match.
“Team morale was definitely high thanks to (Sophomore) Zach Stillman,” Miller said. “We’ll keep improving for the next match.”
Becker said he wants to shoutout Landon Miller for shooting two under par and tying for first in the conference match with a 70 stroke match.
“Our Landon Miller shot two under par and tied for medalist in the conference,” Becker said.
Boys golf’s next match is Friday, Apr. 26 at Edinborough Golf Course vs Eden Prairie.
