The Orioles marched down to Bloomington Jefferson stadium for their second away game, and walked away with their second win of the season on Sept. 27. This win brings Park to a 2-3 record halfway through the season.
After Park’s homecoming loss against Cooper, coach Rob Griffin said the team’s attitude was very important in preparing for the game and earning the win.
“Our attitude overall was that we were going to impose our will on them from the start and dominate them,” Griffin said. “We didn’t do that as much on the first drive as a defense but once we got a turnover and the offense took control we just overwhelmed them and that was the plan.”
Sophomore Everett Arnold said he was proud of the way the team bounced back and played. He said the offense was able to run and pass well.
“We played really well and won by two touchdowns which is a great win,” Arnold said. “Our biggest strength was running the football. In the first quarter, we had a really good passing game and then we were able to fall back on the run for the rest of the night.”
Senior captain Jeremy Eichten said the team had a very good game and that there are areas he can continue to improve upon as an individual.
“We played well and the scoreboard shows that,” Eichten said. “Even though I had two touchdowns, there are some things I need to clean up, I need to be better at blocking.”
According to Arnold, the team played well and dominated the game both offensively and defensively.
“It felt good, especially because we won. We destroyed them on both sides of the ball,” Arnold said.
Eichten said the win is a result of how dedicated the team is and how they have worked together to keep getting better. He said he is very proud of the win.
“This is a testament to how hard we’ve worked in practice this week and the whole season,” Eichten said. “This is the goal every single week and there is no better way to win than this.”
Griffin said the team’s goal is to keep improving every week and be ready for playoffs. He said they need to continue to play hard in order to keep winning.
“Football is set up like a marathon and we try to put ourselves in the best position we can for the playoffs,” Griffin said. “Next week we play a good Tartan team that is going to play tough and hard. We have to be able to match that and come away with a win.”
Park’s next and final home game of the season is against Tartan at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 4 at home.
