What are your favorite memories from playing volleyball?
I have a lot of good memories from volleyball. My most memorable one is getting my 1000th assist. It was very validating and showed me that my hard work paid off.
What is your advice for new people trying to get into volleyball?
The advice would be don’t be hard on yourself. You know, see the fun in it, and work hard. Cherish every moment, work hard and give 100% because it goes by fast.
What are your goals for the rest of the season and the future?
My personal goal is to reach 2000 assists and then for the rest of my career, I hope to play volleyball in college—(I want to) continue to get better. For team goals, I hope to make it to state, win section finals and then win from here on out for all the games.
What has gone well in your high school career?
Each year, I’ve gotten better. I’ve been able to lead the team offensively and use my voice and my skills. Being a two-time captain, getting an all-conference team and MVP has been good.
What is your pregame ritual?
My pregame ritual is getting food. I usually like to get Jimmy John’s or noodles. I listen to music, and then I usually just hang out with the team or listen to music together.
What do you do for post-game recovery?
Post-game, sometimes I get food with my friends. Then sometimes I’ll ice or things like that. I make sure I go to bed early, and then when I wake up, I make sure I hydrate a lot.
How do you show leadership as a veteran?
Being a captain, it’s a little bit easier— I feel like people see my authority. Then, things I feel (and the) things that I say are taken more to heart. Being on the team for four years, it’s easier to be a leader.
Why do you think people should join volleyball?
People should join volleyball because it’s a good atmosphere. The team aspect is really nice and it’s really easy to make friends. It’s a really fun sport, and it’s just fun overall. If you play other sports, it helps you with other aspects of your other sports.
What’s the best advice you’ve gained from your coaches?
Give 100% every day because once you’re done with your high school career, you can’t get it back. You don’t want to regret anything on the court or even with your teammates before and after the game.
