After a previous win from their last home meet, Park’s boys swim team met their defeat against Waconia. With a close score of 47-44, the team plans to work even harder moving forward. This was Park’s second dual meet of the season. The meet took place Jan. 7 instead of Dec. 19 due to a snow-based cancellation.
According to head coach Amanda Forsberg, the meet went well, and Park had a lot of very close races. She said she was happy with the team’s performance, especially since they just had a long break.
“I thought it went well, we had a lot of really close races which is great. This is only our second dual meet, because it got rescheduled from before winter break,” Forsberg said. “It’s always tough coming off winter break, seeing how we’re gonna swim so I was very happy.”
Freshman Luis Dominguez said he thinks the meet went well even with the losing result. He said he still enjoyed competing regardless of the outcome.
“For me personally, the meet went okay. Even though we lost, I still had fun competing,” Dominguez said.
According to freshman Alex Rennie, the meet motivated him to improve for the rest of the season. He said swim practices are long but they help him build upon his skills.
“(The result of the meet) motivates me to keep going and pushing forward because of my improvement,” Rennie said. “Practice is long but I’m getting better and improving.”
Dominguez said the result of this meet has encouraged him to work harder. He said he hopes to work on his techniques for the rest of the season.
“I feel like this (result) has pushed me to really push myself moving forward and keep working on my techniques,” Dominguez said.
According to Forsberg, during this meet, Park had a lot of close races. She said it was a great time with multiple members of the team placing on the score podium.
“I don’t like to highlight lows, so we had some great races. Henry Berg in the 200 free had a really tight race when he came in second, it was a great time,” Forsberg said. “We had a close race in the 50 Free with Magnus, we had a close race in the hundred breasts, all across the board. (We had a close race with) Axel on the 100 backstroke. It’s really nice to have races where everyone’s in it.”
According to Rennie, he competed and swam in multiple events. He said a stroke he enjoyed seeing was butterfly.
“The events I swam were the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free relay. Personally, I liked watching the fly, that was pretty entertaining,” Rennie said.
Forsberg said the main setback the team has had during the season is sickness. She said moving forward they plan to work on breathing and turns.
“We’ve had some illness and that’s kind of tough to bounce back from. We plan to work on turns and breathing (moving forward),” Forsberg said.
Remmie said he is new to competing and his participation in this meet is contributing to his improvement to come. He said he is hoping to practice more.
“I did improve a lot, probably because it was my second time (competing at a meet). So (I plan to improve) by more practice and continuing to go to the practices,” Remmie said.
According to Dominguez, he doesn’t have a lot planned for the near-future in this swim season. He plans to improve his technique and is hopeful that Park will persevere and win more races this season.
“Hopefully we win some races (against) other teams and (I hope) to improve and perfect my technique,” Dominguez said.
Park boys’ swimming’s next meet is an invitational against Edina at 1:00 p.m. Jan. 11 at Southview Middle School.
