What was the highlight of your last basketball season?
A highlight of the basketball season was our double overtime win at Minneapolis Southwest. Even though I didn’t play the best, our team morale was really high, and it was a good team win.
How did your role as the only senior on the team impact the season?
Being the only senior and a captain has made my senior season different. This season, especially, we have emphasized building a community within the Park Girls Basketball Program. I knew that younger girls are always looking up to me, being the only senior. So knowing that, I try to lead by example, whether that’s on the court or off.
What have you learned about leadership from being a basketball captain that you hope to carry over as a track captain
One main thing I’ve learned this basketball season as a captain that I hope to carry over to track is to try to bring a positive attitude, and that positivity also wears off to others.
How do you navigate the quick turnaround with the basketball and track seasons being back-to-back?
After basketball season ends, there’s about a two-week period before track starts. I try to enjoy the change and not overthink it, and just ease into the new season. Having a coach who respects that I play two sports also helps a lot because he understands the transition.
What are you most looking forward to going into the track season?
I’m looking forward to having fun while competing. Compared to basketball, I don’t put as much pressure on myself to hit a specific time or mark. And this lets me have fun and have a positive mindset throughout the season.
What advice would you give to younger people who look up to you as an athlete?
Some advice I would give is always try and have fun given any situation you’re put in, and have a positive attitude that wears off on the people around you too.
