According to assistant coach Branch Johnson, the girls’ swimming team had a lot of energy during its meet but lost to Benilde-St. Margaret’s 51-43 on senior night Oct. 23.
Senior Claudia Stone said her favorite thing about senior night is swimming an event with the other seniors on the team.
“My favorite thing about senior night was the last relay we swam in the meet,” Stone said.
Johnson said the relays and exchanges went especially well but the team ended up losing a few of the close races.
“Our relays were on point. We had good exchanges and the races we tried to capitalize on we did,” Johnson said. “There were just a couple wild card races, we didn’t know how they were gonna turn out and those ended in BSM favor.”
Junior Anna Long said to celebrate the seniors, a gathering is held after the meet with food and teammates give speeches about the seniors.
“After the meet we go to the cafeteria and do speeches and we have cake and pizza and it’s really fun and everyone gets really into it also we throw the boys in the pool,” Long said.
Johnson said to prepare for sections the team will practice the skills they already know in order to keep improving.
“By working harder we are going to take what we learned here and improve it,” Johnson said.
According to Long, although Park did not win to Benilde-St. Margaret’s, the effort was there from the team.
“I think the meet went really well. Everyone swam super well, we might not have won but the effort that went into it is what counts,” Long said.
According to gopark.org Park will compete in sections at 5 p.m. Nov. 8 at Art Downey Aquatic Center.
