Park girls soccer played a conference matchup against New Prague Sept. 28. The game started out fast with Park scoring first, making the game 1-0. The Orioles went on to score a total of four unanswered goals, and ended up beating New Prague 4-0 to end third in the Metro West Conference.
Assistant coach Andy Beaton said he was proud of his team’s preparation ahead of the game. He said the players came into the game ready on their own.
“I was impressed last night that the team came prepared to play on their own. They’re starting to exert their own independence,” Beaton said.
Junior Maisie Carlson said that the preparation heading into this game was mainly finishing based. She said their aim this week was to score, and that’s what they worked on leading up to this game.
“In our latest practices we worked on shooting and finishing so that we could score,” Carlson said.
Sophomore Audrey Martin said a huge strength in this game was their communication. However, even in wins like this, she said there are still things that can be worked on.
“We were really good at communicating and playing out the sides, but our weaknesses were that we got kind of lost in the midfield,” Martin said.
Beaton said the team played the way that they should. He said the team beat a team that they should beat.
“I think they beat a team that they were supposed to. They showed up with the kind of swagger we wanted,” Beaton said.
Girls Soccer’s next game is at 5:00 p.m. on October 5 at Orono High School.
