Freshman Amy Wolden and a family member celebrate winning a point Sept. 30. Park’s girls’ tennis team held a tournament fundraiser to raise money for the team.

On Sept. 30, Park’s girls tennis team hosted a doubles tournament to raise money for the year.

According to sophomore Adele Cormier, the money can be used for events but it keeps the team functioning by giving them more materials and resources to use throughout the year.

“Well it allows us to buy (supplies) because we need new balls, they start wearing out pretty quickly,” said Cormier. “We play a lot of tennis so (this fundraiser) allows us to buy new balls and allows for fun team things like a banquet at the end of the year and stuff for our seniors.”

According to Kevin Jones, the head coach of the tennis team, hosting the sports program and their events are important because it builds companionship between the people involved.

“All the sports programs are important because we have a big sense of community here, and everybody does a lot of things, not just sports,” said Jones. “For example, I have a lot of players on my team that are doing multiple things besides sports.”

Cormier said this event accomplishes multiple things by bringing people together to play tennis while raising money for the team itself.

“First to get people out here and play tennis, because fundraisers are pretty fun. You bring a partner and you guys just play tennis together,” said Cormier. “We’re getting people out there playing tennis and we’re also raising money for teams.”

According to junior Sarah Tirado, raising money for the tennis team is important because it’s one of the sports at Park giving people opportunities they wouldn’t have.

“This tennis team is important because it’s one of the sports and it’s important to have it,” said Tirado. “It’s good to have it because it’s an opportunity for people to play tennis.”

Jones said there are many ways to support the team, whether that be through participating in their events or cheering on the team.

“Come out and cheer us on,” said Jones. “There’s always chances to support, for this fundraiser, you don’t have to be playing, you can also just make donations.”

If you would love to show your support for the tennis team, their next match will be on Oct. 10 at the Baseline Tennis Center with the opponent and timing still to be determined.

Greetings all, my name is Serena and this will be my third year working on this publication. I am one of the condemned copy editors working on the Echo this year. In my free time, I partake in listening to some of my revered music. From the works of the late Dimitri Shostakovich all the way to the new and looming artist Chris Christodoulou. When I’m not doing that I am probably sifting through the petrichor while promenading through Saint Louis Park.

Hey guys!! I’m Rachel, I’m a senior, and this is my third year on Echo. In my free time, I like playing tennis, listening to music and hanging out with friends and family. This year I’m looking forward to getting to know more people and running a (very profitable) freezeria with Abby Mei$ler in the pub! My goal for this year is to co-star with Abby to make the most viral video the world has ever seen. Please help us achieve this ;)
