When and why did you start playing soccer?
(I started playing soccer when) I was five years old. My parents wanted me to join and my sister played. I have learned a lot from her experience as a player.
Who has been your greatest inspiration in your athletic career?
My sister because (we were) on the same team for a few years. She (is) always someone I’ve looked up to. We grew up playing soccer (together) and we were never on the same team until my freshman year, and her junior year. She was a captain her junior year, and a lot of our soccer (experiences) have aligned.
Do you have any advice for any younger athletes who look up to you?
Work hard and cherish all the moments you get playing your sport. You are more than who you are as a soccer player, and you need to have a good mentality about everything.
How has your first season as a captain been?
It’s been pretty similar to my previous seasons, just more leadership expected. It’s definitely really fun to be able to have better relationships with everyone on the team (by) having a bigger role and making sure that the team connects. (My goal is) to be a good leader and make sure I’m supporting everyone on and off the field.
How has being a captain helped your soccer game this year and your connection with your teammates?
(Being a captain) helped me connect more (with) teammates because I’m trying to put myself out there a little more than (I have) in past years. I also think (being a captain has) helped me focus more during practice and during games (in order) to be the best player I can be.
How do you balance being a multi-sport athlete with your schoolwork?
I like to prioritize doing schoolwork and studying on weekends before games. I try to get everything down, focus a lot in school and use my time wisely.
What is your greatest weakness and greatest strength?
(My greatest strength) I would say is my defense, and (my greatest weakness) is I sometimes get a little bit unfocused on the field and start forgetting my job. I need to focus on getting organized.
At this point in the season, what are your goals individually and for the team?
(My) individual goals are to stay positive, keep a good attitude and (to) have good leadership on the field. (Our) team goals are to keep connecting on the field, scoring goals and then winning games.
