Following a tough loss against St. Paul Central Oct. 3, Park boys soccer had another close loss against Orono Oct. 5. The team ended up losing 4-2 after being up 1-0 at halftime. Despite the loss, both players and coaches said they were proud of the team’s resilience and energy.
Coach Hartman said decision-making was one of the main focuses leading up to the game.
“We are working on being more decisive in front of the goal and taking quick shots,” Hartman said.
Senior captain Jakob Eenigenburg said the game went pretty well overall.
“We started off very strong,” Eenigenburg said. “A little too much dribbling caught us in the second half.”
Senior captain Bjorn Bleske said there were a lot of good parts of the game despite the loss.
“I’d have to say Jakobs header was gorgeous,” Bleske said. “He came in like a missile.”
Hartman said the score was not reflective of how the team played.
“The forwards were really fighting hard to get a goal,” Hartman said. “They kept pushing and pushing all the way to the end.”
Bleske agreed that the result did not reflect the effort.
“It was probably one of our better games,” Bleske said. “We worked hard but (it’s) too bad it didn’t translate.”
Eenigenburg said the coaches adjusted the lineup in hopes of a comeback.
“In the second half we switched to a four back,” Eenigenburg said. “We actually started to come back.”
Boys soccer faces Washburn next at 3:00 p.m. Oct. 7 at Washburn High School.
