Meet the athlete: senior Carlos Siguenza

Josh Anderson

When did you start playing lacrosse, and why?

I started playing lacrosse in seventh grade when one of my hockey friends asked if I wanted to play with him. I decided that since I didn’t have anything else going on in the spring, I would give it a try.

Why did you decide to continue playing lacrosse throughout high school?

As soon as I started to play more and more, I realized how all-around fun the sport was and the people I was able to meet and befriend through playing.

What have you liked the most about lacrosse, why? What have you taken from your experience in lacrosse?

The best part of lacrosse is it’s high intensity and fast-paced game play that is different from most other team sports. Through being a two year captain, I learned valuable leadership and responsibility traits that will be useful later in life.

Were there any negatives/downsides of playing lacrosse in high school?

I’d say the only negative of playing lacrosse is how time consuming it is. But I guess that’s the same for any other high school sport so it is almost normal.

Why did you decide playing lacrosse at Cornell College? How were you able to join the team and what allowed you to commit to Cornell?

The Cornell coach, Andrew Bonasera, originally contacted and told me about the school. Before I talked to him I had no idea that Cornell College was even a thing. But after some back and forth conversations with him I went down to visit and just really liked the entire school in general. Another big reason I decided to go to Cornell was for their Music program. I auditioned and received a $20,000 a year vocal music scholarship and will be singing in their choirs.

Do you think that playing lacrosse at Cornell will better your college experience? How and in what ways?

I think like any other collegiate sport it will introduce me to a variety of new people and help make new and meaningful relationships with a ton of new and interesting people.

What are you looking forward to most by playing Lacrosse at Cornell?

I’m definitely excited to be playing at a higher and more competitive level of lacrosse. I know that it’s going to be much different than high school lacrosse, but I’m excited to take on that new challenge.
