The team builds upon their skills for first meet
The gymnastics team started practice two weeks ago and is preparing for its first meet Dec. 13 against Saint Francis.
Senior captain Erica Frey said confidence is key to their first meet. “I want all the girls to feel of themselves and their routines,” she said. “I want them to feel like a strong and confident team.”
Frey said this starts with perfecting certain weak areas and improving upon skills.
“Bars is probably our weakest event, so we’ve been focusing on improving as a team in that area,” she said. As for the team, Frey said she expects them to work on their skill individually as well as their progress as a team.
“Everyone pretty much has their own skills they’re working on as well,” she said.
Besides the uneven bars, gymnasts compete in three other events during a meet, including a floor routine, vault, and the balance beam.
The meet starts at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in the gymnastics room at the Central Community Center.
