After a tough last season, the St. Louis Park girls hockey team is looking to build basic skills and team chemistry to improve. The 2012 season ended with a record of 4-2-20.

Senior Captain Molly Arntson said she thinks the team has potential to see considerable improvement this season.“We want to win a lot more games than we did last year,” said Arntson. “We’ve really been working on moving the puck and line work, we’re becoming mentally and physically prepared.”

Head coach Donnie Williams points to the team’s mentality and experience to achieve this goal.

“The girls all have a strong work ethic,” said Williams. “Almost all of them have been in the program for three or more years so they know what’s expected of them.”

The team will kicked off its season on Thursday, Nov. 7 with a home game against St. Paul. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. They then played on Saturday, Nov. 9 against the Achiever Academy Achievers. They lost, ending with a score of 4-0.

Arntson said she is proud of the way her team has played so far.

“I feel good about the way we’ve been playing,” said Arntson. “We tied the first game which was good, then the second game we lost but it was to a really good team and I think we still held our own.”

The team’s next game is on Tuesday, Nov. 12 against the Academy of Holy Angels.
