Girls’ hockey season comes to a close

With a 3-2 playoff loss to Holy Angels, the girls’ hockey season came to an end Feb. 5. The team finished its season with a record of 3-21-1.

According to head coach Donnie Williams, it was a game that could have gone either way.

“The girls played really great and never gave up, but we didn’t get the outcome we wanted,” Williams said. “We outshot Holy Angels, it was definitely a winnable game.”

Senior captain Anna Basill said it was difficult to see her season end.

“It was probably the most emotional game I’ve ever played in,” she said. “We were all really sad when we lost. It was a rough way to end the season.”

Despite their close final effort, Williams said he was overall dismayed by the season.

“I’m pretty disappointed. I wanted a lot more success,” Williams said. “We lost to teams we should’ve beaten, but once the frustration of losing set in we couldn’t get it together. We wanted more, but it didn’t work out that way.”

Senior varsity member Peyton Stafne said she thinks the team could have had a lot more success than it did.

“There are a lot of games that I think we should have won, ones that we all wish we could go back to and play again,” Stafne said.

In spite of the team’s disappointment, Williams said he still has faith in the team for next season.

“We have a lot of kids who will step up to fill the roles of the graduating seniors,” he said. “We’re going to have a busy, productive summer, and I believe we can start a new phase in St. Louis Park girls’ hockey.”
