The boys’ record so far this season is 3-7-2, after a hard loss at Duluth’s tournament the boys are ready for a different outcome.

The boys’ team started the tournament Dec. 29 against Bemidji, a team well known for its hockey ability and competitiveness with a record of 12 wins and 1 loss, St. Louis Park lost 5-1.

The team’s second game on Dec. 30 was against Proctor, a team with a record of 6 wins and 7 losses and St. Louis Park was upset 4-2. Captain Conor Klaers said the team was very disappointed.

“Losing was tough to teams such as Proctor but I think we can learn from it so that it doesn’t happen again,” Klaers said.

St. Louis Park’s last game on Dec. 31 was against Hudson, a team from Wisconsin and couldn’t pull out a win, losing 6-1.

In the midst of loss, Klaers said he was proud of how close they kept it against Bemidji, a notable team in Minnesota.

“We played well against Bemidji and I was proud to see how close we kept it, in the middle of the game we were only down 2-1,” Klaers said.

Klaers said it was not one of their best weekends but that they have the potential to be better. From the team’s experience at the tournament they are focusing on making a team turn around.

“The rest of the season we are focusing on making it 100 percent about effort, we are challenging ourselves to bring effort all the time to practice and in games.” said Klaers.

Boys’ coach Terry Keseley said he hopes the team can learn and take away something positive from the tournament as well.

“This helps us realize we have to focus on our objectives and adjust accordingly in game, any team can beat us and we can beat them but we have to work together and be determined.” Keseley said.

The tournament helped the team refocus on the games ahead of them, although it was hard for them to stay positive during the tournament they realize they have to become more competitive and work on their skills to become a successful team.
