According to coach Dawn Thielen,  the girls’ continued to make improvements at Sections.

“The team did pretty great at this last meet,” Thielen said. “We had some great personal scores, on beam and vault especially.”

Senior Savannah Romero said she did not think the scores properly represented the team but they still had a lot of fun.

“We stayed positive and we put on the best performance we could. We placed No. 5 overall,” Romero said.

Sophomore Josie Briant said the meet was not the best because gymnasts were faced with the challenge of performing under pressure.

“I don’t think it was the best end of the season. Compared to last year, we lost a few valuable teammates so our score was hard to build up from that,” Briant said. “However, this meet was also easier to enjoy because I have become closer with the team.”

Although there were challenges, Briant said there were enjoyable parts of the last meet.

“The best part of the meet was getting ready in the locker room right before walkout and just listening to music and having a good time,” Briant said.

Thielen said she thought the routines came together very well at the end because of the hard work the gymnasts put in during practice.

“The way that these girls work every day towards their goals and support each other every day was an amazing thing to witness as a coach,” Thielen said.

Romero said this meet was a great way to end her gymnastics season and her gymnastics career.

“I had some amazing girls by my side so being with them and having fun just made it so enjoyable,” Romero said. “Although we didn’t win — that wasn’t the most important thing — it was performing our best and having fun, which we did.”

Thielen said she recommends for the girls to practice hard to prepare for next year. She said she knows the gymnastics team will continue to do well and improve.

“The offseason is the best time to learn new skills and improve the old ones. If you have been through tryouts before, don’t be afraid to try out again. We are a young team, and we are continuing to grow, and have lots of openings at this time,” Thielen said.

Romero said she is confident in the capabilities of the remaining gymnast, and she expects great things to come from them.

“Lastly, I’d like to say that I wish this team nothing but the best in these upcoming years,” Romero said. “There are so many great girls with some great talent. Don’t sleep on them because there are some that I know will go to State.”
