After gymnastics lost its first home meet against St. Anthony, senior Ryan Rasmussen said she is happy with how the team performed despite the loss.

“Even though we didn’t win I feel like everyone did very well and I think a lot of us got personal records on all of our events,” Rasmussed said. “We are going to continue to be working hard, so overall I think we had a really good meet.”

Junior Sophia Earle said she appreciates the support that the gymnasts provided for each other throughout the meet Dec. 14.

“I have seen our teammates encourage each other which is really cool and I’m excited to see how that pushes people to do their best,” Earle said.

Rasmussen said the team is in high spirits and strives to improve as the season goes on.

“We’re just really proud of our team spirit and how we all came together,” Rasmussen said.

According to coach Kiri Palmquist, she said she was surprised by the exceptional performance of the new gymnasts.

“I’m very proud of vault because there were some new girls that have never done vault before and they went right over,” Palmquist said.

Earle said she is excited to see her new teammates develop and improve throughout the season.

“From the new gymnasts I am seeing so much ambition to just try it and just put themselves out there and get past the scary parts of gymnastics and be confident in what they’re doing,” Earle said.

According to Palmquist, she wants the team to focus on their technique for future meets.

“Things we could probably work on is doing more lines, like on-floor skills and working on sticking our beam routines,” Palmquist said.

Park will next face Waconia at 6 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Central Community Center.
