Season right around the corner

Teammates gather to try lifting the deadlift bar. Players participate in strength and conditioning every Wednesday.

After training for many months before the basketball season started, sophomore Marley Curtis said he is excited for the upcoming season and to get back in the groove of things.

“I’m looking forward to getting better and growing as a team,” Curtis said. “A lot of us are coming back into the game and just back onto the court again.”

According to assistant coach Rob Griffin, it is exciting to see the team grow as one and play well throughout the season.

“Two (returning) players have actually played varsity minutes coming back and we got a young group but a very talented group coming in,” Griffin said. “(I’m excited) to see the talent they have from game one going all the way into sections.”

During the basketball season, it is important for players to maintain their grades in order to have playing time in games, according to sophomore Noah Margolis.

“I’m going to play as hard as I can in practices and games as well as eat better,” Margolis said. “Another goal for me is just to keep up in school and focus more in class.”

Griffin said that he is most excited for the season because of the wide range in ages of the players and positions.

“This season we just need to take our time again from having an older group. We have very interchangeable players, so everybody can do a bit of everything and get guys comfortable in different spots while learning everyone’s roles,” Griffin said.

Curtis said an important aspect of the team is good chemistry, on and off the court, no matter how old or young the players are.

“(The team) is mostly older again. Last year was the same situation and dynamic,” Curtis said. “The good thing is that we’re all close so our chemistry is there.”
