Park faced a big rival this game as they were eliminated from sections last year by Holy Angels. A well battled game against Holy Angels ended in a devastating loss of 5-2 on Dec. 6.
According to coach Hunter Smith, the team still executed their game plan even though they lost.
“Our game plan was to come in and try to do things simple, you know, make simple plays, get pucks out, get pucks in,” Smith said. “I think we had stretches where we were really good at that and some stretches where we could have been a little bit better.”
According to senior Griffin Krone, one of their biggest takeaways from the game is sticking to their plan and being able to score off of it.
“We have to stick to our system, stick to our plan and then we can compete with any of these teams and we can score goals,” Krone said. “We just have to be able to compete and stick to our systems.”
Sophomore Owen Anklam said there were positive things during the game that the team can build off of.
“We got to work on our special teams a lot, which helped us score those two goals,” Anklam said.
According to Krone, the game went fine but there are things they can improve on.
“I thought it was fine, but we just have to be better on fast breaks and we can do that,” Krone said.
According to Smith he’s excited later down the line for this being his first year coaching saying.
“I’m really excited for some of these bigger matchups we have coming up,” Smith said. “Obviously, it’s my first time coaching here, so it’s been really exciting getting to see some of this top-end talent that we get to play against.”
Park’s next game is at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Rec Center against Bloomington Kennedy.
