Senior Kiya Grace shoots free throws after being fouled Jan. 24. Park took home a 65-53 loss.

As Park sports has approached the half-way point of their winter season, many sports have had their ups and downs.

Junior Noah Margolis said the basketball season has gone well and the team has made lots of improvements since last basketball season.

“It’s been going great,” said Margolis. “We’ve been waiting a lot more games last year and we’ve been competing with high level teams.”

Junior Henry Berg said the boys swim team has a good record right now and is confident moving forward.

“So far this year were three and one. It’s a good record, but I feel like we could be undefeated right now,” said Berg.

Margolis said the  teams expectations are high but he feels they can meet them by the end of the season.

“We’ve been winning  a lot more games since last year, and we’ve been competing with high level teams,” said Margolis. “I don’t think we’ve met our expectations yet, because I feel like we can win our conference.  We still have another month left of that so we can keep working hard.”

Junior Amara Schroeder said the basketball season has gone good, but she is enjoying her time.

“I think my winter sport has gone good. I like competing with my friends,” said Schroeder.

Berg said the swim season has gone well, although they have a small team.

“So far (the season) has been pretty good. We’ve had a small team, but we’ve been able to win a couple of minutes,” said Berg.

Margolis said he believes that the boys basketball record does not define them as a team.

“Our record is 6-8 or 7 and I don’t feel like that record determines us as a team, but we can do better than that,” said Margolis.

With sections coming up, Margolis said they need to be prepared and active at all times.

“One of the biggest things we’ve been doing is we get tired a lot in the second half, especially with the last five minutes on that,” said Margolis. “Those are big, crucial five minutes, so we’ve been doing a lot of conditioning.”

After the first half of this season, Margolis said his season with the team has improved plenty since the start.

“I felt like our team was doing bad at the start of the season, the games were going bad. We’d all get mad at each other,” said Margolis. “Now we’re starting to give each other positivity and that helps us more.”

Schroeder said her team is still working to meet their goals for the season.

“Our team hasn’t reached the goals that we set at the beginning of the year. We need to continue to push through adversity and keep working in practice,” said Schroeder.

Schroeder said the girls’s record is not an accurate representation of how the team is playing.

“Our team record is 4-11 and that is not a good representation of the team,” said Schroeder. “We have a lot of talent but struggle (with) consistently playing at the level we are supposed to be at.”

Berg said the team is preparing hard for sections and making their practices harder.

“We’re still ramping up the yardage and having hard practices getting ready for sections,” said Berg.

Berg said he’s seen improvements and differences since the beginning of the swimming season on attendance.

“Attendance has been a lot better, people have been skipping less practices which is good,” said Berg.

Amara said she’s noticed improvement in skill due to outside strength practice. She said this has helped them persevere in games.

“Our team has put in a lot of work strengthening our skills and conditioning and that has helped us push through games,” said Schroeder.

With sections coming up, Noah Margolis  said they need to be prepared and active at all times.

“One of the biggest things we’ve been doing is we get tired a lot in the second half, especially with the last five minutes on that,” said Margolis. “Those are big, crucial five minutes, so we’ve been doing a lot of conditioning.”
