Miguel Ocampo

Soccer, University of Wisconsin, Superior

When did you start playing soccer?

(I) started playing when I was four years old.

How has soccer impacted your life?

It has taught me a lot of life lessons. It has just kind of been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It is my passion, it is what I do pretty much every day so I cannot imagine living without it.

Who has inspired you the most throughout your soccer career?

My dad has inspired me quite a bit, he has always been pushing me. And the professional players that inspire me are Lionel Messi (and) Ronaldinho was the reason I fell in love with the game so those are two people that inspire me.

What were some emotions going through you when you committed?

It was kind of a hard decision I was choosing between a division two school in Iowa, Upper Iowa University, and University of Wisconsin SUperior. A lot of things came into consideration for my decisions and I was just really excited when I committed.

What was the process in deciding to commit to Wisconsin-Superior, and why did you commit there?

Well, the most important thing was that it was affordable for me, I wanted to go to a college where I would not be in a lot of debt. I thought it was the smarter move to find an affordable college. And then obviously the soccer team. I went for overnight visits, got to hangout with the guys (and) the coaches. Both of them were really cool. There were just a lot of things I took into consideration.

Did any other colleges recruit or talk to you?

My top three were Upper Iowa University, a (D2) school (and) Lorist College, a D3 school that has been really really good in the past. They have been in the final four or five times in the past nine years, but UW-Superior ended up being the best option for me.

What will you miss most about high school soccer?

I am going to miss (my coach) Chato (Alvarado), he was a fun coach. (I will) also (miss) just hanging out with the guys every day, it was always a good time, (I) cannot remember it not being fun.
