Meet girls’ track captain Chloe Schaerer
Junior reflects on upcoming Benilde meet
May 2, 2017
How has the team’s season been going? How does this compare to other seasons?
We’ve been doing pretty well this year. We have a lot of new talent on the team and everyone is working super hard. This year started out a little (rougher) than past seasons, but so far this team looks like one of the the best teams we’ve had in a few years.
What point of the season is the team at? What’s coming up in the trajectory of the season?
Right now we are the middle of the season but coming close to the peak of season. In a few weeks we will be competing in our conference meets, which are what the team works for all season. We are hoping to place well in those meets and gain as many points as possible.
How does the team feel going into the Benilde meet? How do you think you guys will stack up?
The Benilde meet is not a super huge deal for our team. Benilde is not one our biggest rivals as a team, rivalries tend to be more event-specific. This year I believe it will be a close meet, and of course I hope we win but you never know until you get to the track.
Does competing against a rival like Benilde change the dynamic of the meet or the preparation?
The team prepares as we would for any other meet. We do our best to correct technique and work on mechanics. Everyone is working hard to get faster and stronger, all in ultimate preparation for conference. The Benilde meet does not change the trajectory or the intensity of practice by much. A lot of the prep is resting up and making sure runners’ shins and feet are in shape, to avoid injury while on the Benilde track.
