According to girls’ golf coach Joe Yaeger, four JV golfers participated in a tournament style match May 10 at Chaska Par 30 golf course.

Yaeger said the match held eight non conference schools and consisted of 46 players. Yaeger said the girls scored a 225.

Yaeger said eighth grader Maia Seidel won an award for hitting the ball closest to the pin on hole eight.

“(Seidel) had a wonderful tee shot and put it within a foot and a half,”  Yaeger said. “There were 46 girls there, (and) she was (about) the 16th girl to play that hole and that shot held up all day.”

Junior Julia Austad said the low number of Park girls playing posed as a challenge.

“We were missing two of our better golfers who normally play JV, and so since we only had four, we had to take all four of our scores which is kind of hard,” Austad said. “Normally you just takes your best four, so that wasn’t the greatest.”

Yaeger said despite low numbers, the girls had a successful match.

“The girls played fantastic, you could see them strategizing in how they had to play the course, what shot they should hit now to have a better shot on the next one,” Yaeger said.

Austad said improved weather conditions make matches more enjoyable.

“I think (the weather) helped mentally. We can all golf in the rain, but it’s not fun to golf in the rain. We are all just super ‘I don’t want to go golfing, but when it’s sunny out you’re like ‘I can get a tan while I’m golfing,’,” Austad said. “Everyone looks forward to it more and has more fun.”
According to gopark.org, the girls play their next conference match May 15 against Chaska at Rush Creek Golf Course.
