According to coach Mike Okey, the boys golf team has recently hit its stride despite significant delays caused by weather earlier in the season.

“Thus far, the team has gotten better every week but it was tough with the condensed season,” Okey said. “We have only been playing outdoor golf for 27 days now and scores keep improving and getting more consistent.”

Okey said Park placed higher in the conference than in the past few years.

“We finished third in our conference after back to back fifth place finishes the last two years,” Okey said.

According to Okey, the section meet takes place at the beginning of June at a great course.

“Sections are May 31st and June 4th at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan,” Okey said. “Sand Creek really is a joy for everybody to play at, so I am excited for the boys.”

Okey said the varsity team traveled to Sand Creek Golf Club for a practice round on May 21 to get a feel for the sections course.

“In terms of extra preparation, we took the trip with our top seven down to Jordan to play Sand Creek on Tuesday,” Okey said. “It was a great opportunity for our guys to start visualising the shots they will have to hit at sections and really get locked into the right mindset.”

Senior Conor Schubring said the team has been preparing for the section tournament the same way they have prepared for any other tournament this year.

“We really have been viewing sections as just another tournament, just another round to show the way that our team can play,” Schubring said.

According to Okey, the team has made it their goal to be a contender at the section tournament.

“As a team, we definitely have it as our goal to qualify for the second day of sections this year,” Okey said. “To do this, we would need to finish in the top four on the first day, which is quite difficult considering our competition.”

Schubring said he is especially impressed by the team’s play this season.

“I feel like there have been some holes in my game, but the team has definitely playing really well,” Schubring said. “I’m just really looking forward to seeing what these guys can do at sections.

The boys golf team’s next match is at 10 a.m. on May 31 at Sand Creek Golf Club in Jordan, Minnesota for the section championships
