Versatility in broadcasts increases appeal
April 28, 2017
Pop:
97.1 – Cities 97 (5/5)
Cities 97 claims to play “more music, more variety” and gives you just that. Unlike some pop stations, this one doesn’t constantly replay songs, so you can usually listen for a long time without hearing the same song twice. Plus, if the station isn’t playing a song you love when you turn it on, you’ll probably like the next one. With a mix of current and older as well as upbeat and mellow music, there’s something for every listener.
Other stations:
94.5 – KS95 (4/5)
101.3 – KDWB (2/5)
Alternative:
89.3 – The Current (4/5)
If you want to hear something you haven’t heard before, The Current is for you. This station broadcasts a wide variety of songs from one of the broadest genres out there. If you’re in the mood for something you wouldn’t hear on a daily basis, The Current is a great choice. As someone who loves finding new things to listen to, I can tell you this station will definitely expand your music taste.
Other stations:
93.3 – ALT 93.3 (3/5)
96.3 – Go 96.3 (3/5)
Rock:
104.1 – Jack FM (5/5)
As a classic rock station, Jack FM always plays what’s good. With songs people have listened to for decades, the station is still able to find an appeal with today’s generation. You’ll almost certainly know what’s playing, so there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself singing along. Although the station plays a good variety of songs, it ensures you can move from a calmer song to something more hardcore without a total mood change.
Other stations:
92.5 – 92 KQRS (4/5)
93.7 – 93X (3/5)
107.9 – KOOL 108 (4/5)
Hip-Hop/R&B:
95.3 – Go 95.3 (4/5)
While other Hip-Hop/R&B stations in the Twin Cities tend to play older songs, this one plays what’s current. For this reason, this station is my personal favorite, because it plays what you want to hear. As a station focused on a broader genre, Go 95.3 plays songs you can dance or vibe to. On the cutting edge of today’s music, this station will introduce you to songs you haven’t heard but will want to hear again.
Other stations:
102.5 – Hot 102.5 (3/5)
105.1, 105.3, 105.7 – 105 The Vibe (4/5)
Country:
102.9 – Buz’n @102.9 (3/5)
This station plays a good mix of mellow and upbeat country, but always manages to be something you can groove to. With a ‘new country’ focus, the station plays songs that are with the times, so even people who aren’t dedicated fans of country can find something to enjoy. However, it also plays some old favorites that can draw in long time lovers of country music.
