Whether you’ve been waiting since December 2016, or last June for my fellow Netflix viewers, season 8 of “Shameless” is about to premiere.

* Spoiler Alert! *

The season 7 finale of Showtime’s dramedy was full of twists. From Monica, the Gallagher children’s estranged mother, dying of brain cancer and leaving the family with over $70,000 in meth, to Fiona becoming an entrepreneur and buying a rundown apartment building, family life was anything but mundane. Even Kevin and Fiona weren’t left out of the drama, getting kicked out of their own business by Svetlana, a betrayal that was a major point of contention in season 7.

I am excited to see how Fiona’s plotline progresses. Fiona’s new apartment building will help her ambitions to profit legitimately to advance, something unheard of from the Gallagher family. I am also excited to see if Ian’s relationship with Trevor survives, which would benefit Ian. Ian’s character has improved drastically — being an EMT pushed him to be in a better place, both in society and his relationship with his mental health. Lip and Carl have improved a lot as well, with Carl in military school and Lip working toward sobriety, putting genuine effort into Alcoholics Anonymous. The Gallaghers have made it a long way from season 1, though we’ll have to wait and see if it’ll stick. Knowing that family, it likely won’t.

While it’s impossible for “Shameless-fans” to predict where the show may go in season 8, make sure to tune in to Showtime Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. to catch the season 8 premiere.
