Students taking the Business and Innovations class have worked for the majority of first semester toward establishing Urbandz, a student-run company which sells Park headbands.

The teacher of the class, Kara Mueller, said the students followed a very detailed process that included choosing a target market, making a market survey for students, analyzing product options and creating questions for the different departments business plan.

“Urbandz is a great way for the students to learn about all of the elements and skills that come along with running a business,” Mueller said. “It is also a great way to help students find their interests within business.”

Sophomore Luke Cichoski, a student in the Business and Innovations class, said he thinks working on Urbandz with his peers is a very valuable experience.

“The business aspect of Urbandz provides entrepreneurship skills along with marketing skills,” Cichoski said. “As a class, we chose headbands to sell for our business.”

Sophomore Andrew Sams said that since the business is very new, Urbandz is working very hard to be well-known throughout school.

“We have created a Twitter account, Facebook page, and Instagram account to try and get the Urbandz name out there,” Sams said.

Mueller also said the students have to plan all of the costs for the business, including interest in stocks and figuring out how much they will be able to pay themselves as well as their supplier.

A single headband costs $4, and a package of three costs $10. Posters around the school encourage students to show their SLP pride with Urbandz headbands, and each purchase will help support the student-run business.
