With prom just around the corner, many girls are shopping for dresses. Prom dresses can be expensive, and a Park business class has found a way to help out, according to teacher Sophia Ross.

In May 2013 Sophia Ross, a business education teacher at Park, began collecting prom dresses for student use. She accepted donations from the community and acquired about 60 dresses. Students needing community service hours for National Honors Society or other reasons are able to donate dresses to fulfil their service requirements.

Ross said she feels the dresses are a helpful resource for many students, and welcomes anyone to browse the selection.

“This (dress offer) is not only for those who are unable to afford dresses for prom or homecoming,” Ross said. “Anyone who wants to is welcome to come in to take a look at them and try them on.”

One of Ross’ classes, Fashion Marketing and Merchandising, created dresses of their own design for a class project, using materials other than fabric. With these creations and some of the donated prom dresses, the class will put on a fashion show.

Amy Bachman, a Fashion Marketing student said she will participate in the show, adding that it will allow students to see the dresses in the assortment.

“We will be modeling the dresses we created, along with many of the donated dresses,” Bachman said.

People wishing to attend the fashion show can come to see it during 7th period on Friday, April 25, in the old gym.

The dresses can be found in room B226 for students to come in and browse the selection.
