Substitute custodian sentenced
Unrelated trial of middle school assistant postponed
September 10, 2016
According to Hennepin County Attorney’s Office media coordinator Chuck Laszewski, substitute custodian Fasel Ali was sentenced to a stay on probation Aug. 11. Laszewski said if Ali doesn’t violate the terms of his probation, his gross misdemeanor charge will be dropped to a misdemeanor on his record.
Laszewski said Ali was also to serve 153 days in the county workhouse, but was given credit for the 153 days he already spent in jail.
According to Laszewski, the conditions of Ali’s probation include no use of alcohol or drugs, regular drug testing and sex offender treatment.
Ali plead guilty to 5th degree criminal sexual conduct in April.
Laszewski said the unrelated trial of middle school assistant Jarrell Smith was postponed to Sept. 26. Laszewski said the previous trial date for Smith was May 31, but was moved due to scheduling problems.
Smith was charged in November with criminal sexual conduct.
Echo will continue to investigate both cases.
