After an already successful season thus far, Park boys ultimate secured a close win for senior night. After a tough battle, the team walked away with a 12-11 victory over Andover. They came from behind, but managed to work together in the second half and have a major comeback.
Sophomore Owen Anklam said the second half went better for the team and they were able to make up the difference.
“We were a little scared in the first half, but we came back and got the win,” Anklam said.
Senior Henry Salita said the team’s comeback was due to their teamwork and chemistry on the field.
“We played Crush ultimate like we know how to do and we won,” Salita said.
Head coach Spencer Hagen said focusing on the team’s goals helps the players focus and stay motivated.
“Every game we are looking to get better and to play the way we want to play,” Hagen said. “I really feel like we accomplished both of those goals today.”
Salita said senior night as a whole brought up a lot of mixed emotions for him.
“It’s a little scary to think about our team’s future since there are a lot of seniors,” Salita said. “But it was nice to see how loved we are by crush as a community.”
Anklam said the senior night ceremony brought up some feelings but also inspired him.
“It was sad but it was also pretty cool,” Anklam said. “Some of them have been playing ultimate for Park for around 14 years.”
Hagen said honoring the seniors tonight made this win even more special, and it was really nice to recognize all their accomplishments.
“A lot of the seniors on this team have been playing for a long time and have put a lot of time and energy into this program,” Hagen said. “They are the reason that we’re at the level that we’re at.”
Orange Crush Ultimate returns to the field for a tournament on June 5 in Blaine.
