When did you start playing tennis?
I played in the summers when I was a kid, and I did a bunch of camps and made friends through it and I got hooked.
What has gone well so far this season?
Team bonding, we lost a bunch of seniors last year, so I didn’t know how “together” we were going to be as a team, but we got a bunch of new people, and everybody’s kind, fun and uplifting, and the team environment has been good.
What does it mean to you to be a captain?
My role is communication, so I run our social media and I put messages out in our group chat. I think being captain is an honor because it allows me to be a leader, and it felt good to be selected by the coaching staff as a captain because it shows that they have trust in me.
How do you lead by example for the team?
I try to be uplifting and encouraging towards other players, and just making sure I’m vocal and talking to people, and that inspires other people on the team to do the same.
What goals do you have for the rest of the season?
I’d love to win a section game. I think it would be a really big accomplishment because we only have one senior this year, so it’ll be a very similar team next year to the one this year. If we can have postseason success, I think that’d be big for the group.
What would you say to anyone considering joining boys’ tennis?
It’s a fun group. I don’t think I’ve ever had someone join tennis and tell me that they regretted it. Everybody that I’ve talked to has loved playing the sport, and people get a lot of enjoyment out of playing, so if people are looking for a spring sport to play, it’s a totally fun, not super high-pressure sport that they can.
