Team learns new skills with hope of achieving more wins
As the varsity girls’ lacrosse team approaches sections, sophomore Maris Cunningham finds additional focus put on practicing specific plays and ground balls.
She said the team hopes to improve upon its current record of 5-5 and ultimately earn postseason success during sections, which begin May 28.
According to head coach Kyle Sweeney, the Varsity team is playing in a new section this year and she still does not know who their opponent will be during sections. In the meantime, the team is focusing on learning new skills.
“We’re losing but we’re also improving,” she said. “The skills we are developing are new because they are skills needed to play and beat harder teams. We need to focus on winning our last three games and show the skills we have learned in tough games.”
Sweeney said she thinks the section games will be difficult and the skills currently being learned will help the team succeed.
Although Cunningham said the season has not gone as well as she initially wanted, it is still possible to have a positive attitude.
“There have been some games that we should have won, but didn’t,” she said. “I hope we can play together, communicate more and win.”
