Although the Boys to Men club offers male students a time to talk about their issues in a communal setting, their meetings are being reduced to allow students to spend more time in class, according to adviser Chris Weaver.

Boys to Men is a mentoring club aimed to help teenage boys express their problems and come up with solutions.

Weaver said he made the decision to lower the amount of meetings after critical consideration.

“We are changing to an every-other-week format. First semester we had meetings once a week, but that became too much,” Weaver said.

He said he thinks the program needed to be changed for multiple reasons.

“It’s partially to not disrupt classes as much because they are important, but also we are hoping students will put more effort into the group meetings,” Weaver said.

Some students who participate in the club meetings are divided on the issue.

Junior Walid Mussa, a participant in Boys to Men, said he strongly agrees with the idea of decreasing the amount of discussions.

“I think it’s great because some kids go there to skip class, which is wrong,” Mussa said.

However, senior Abdullah Yusuf said he disagrees with Weaver’s decision because Boys to Men is a valuable resource.

“Students need the group to talk with their peers about their classes and their problems outside of school,” Yusuf said.
