Social studies teacher, Carley Kregness goes through Park connections slides with students on Oct. 4. Kregness is excited to be the new CAS advisor.

Creativity Activity Science is a program for all students who are attempting to complete the IB diploma. The new advisor, Carley Kregness, said the effort the students are putting into CAS is fantastic.

“What the students are doing here in CAS is wonderful and they are things that we all should be doing in our lives,” Kregness said. “I’m getting to help students develop the habit of really being physically active, doing service in the community and being creative.”

According to junior Ian Bautista, people who are working to obtain an IB diploma should take advantage of this opportunity.

“If you want to and you think you have the ability then why not?” Bautista said. “It’s not like you can’t graduate without it.”

Junior Amran Abdullahi said she really appreciates being in Kregness’s class.

“She is a very wonderful teacher. I enjoy her class a lot,” Abdullahi said. “Even though I don’t understand sometimes, she’s a wonderful explainer.”

Kregness said it can be difficult to manage, considering she has students pursuing this program at different levels.

“It can be hard sometimes figuring out how to make it work,” Kregness said. “Having two different grades in the same room that are at different places can be challenging.”

Abdullahi said passing the IB diploma is difficult because you have to take a lot of classes that have a lot of hard work and you have to do a lot of out of school activities, but she thinks it’ll be worth it once she obtains the IB diploma.

“There’s a lot of things involving getting the IB diploma where it can challenge you,” Abdullahi said. “Right now, pre-calculus is not my strong suit but if you work through it, it can be a great challenge to overcome.”
