Students benefit less fortunate children
With winter approaching, many families cannot afford warm clothing for their children. DECA’s latest fundraiser aims to solve this.
For many years, DECA has sponsored preschoolers at the Family Partnerships Preschool in Minneapolis, which provides childcare for low-income families. Members sponsor a child by giving them presents.
Conroy said he thinks the preschool serves an important niche in the community.
“It’s a good program because a lot of low income parents can’t afford preschool,” Conroy said. “Parents pay whatever they can.”
DECA adviser Jena Splettstoeser said the program, which gives preschoolers a new hat, mittens and a present, provides a good opportunity for DECA members and students to serve the community.
“It’s really beneficial for students at the High School to be able to give back to kids that don’t have a lot,” she said.
DECA members will visit the preschool Dec. 20 to deliver the gifts.
Students can sponsor a child by talking with a DECA member by Dec. 13.
